Heads up on a proposed trip to Wollongong University. The tour date in August will be determined by when the greatest number of people can go. I’ve tentatively advised the University that 20 people will be attending. Allow a full day. To register your interest go to https://doodle.com/poll/r6u97hacd772tyz4 and tick the date that best suits you. If you have any questions contact Grant on 0425-210-100 or grickey@iglu.com.au.

By way of background, SBRC is a multi-disciplinary research centre that addresses the challenge of making buildings sustainable through independent research and a wide range of industry collaborations. The centre It is located in an elegantly designed 6 Star Green Star facility (Education Design v1 accredited). Designed by architects Cox Richardson, the building was constructed with the target of becoming the first Living Building Challenge certified building in Australia. https://sbrc.uow.edu.au/index.html

The University of Wollongong teamed up with TAFE Illawarra under the auspices of the SBRC to form ‘Team UOW’ in the Solar Decathlon China 2013. They were the first team from Australia to gain entry into a Solar Decathlon, and took a unique approach to the competition by being the first team in the history of the competition to demonstrate how to retrofit an existing home. And they won! The Illawarra Flame House as their winning entry is called is now located in its permanent position at the University of Wollongong Innovation Campus. It is located opposite the SBC is part of the University’s longer term Sustainability Street project. The guided tour through the Illawarra Flame House will allow tour participants to question sustainable design solution for light framed housing. https://sbrc.uow.edu.au/news/UOW157974.html
