Workshop 1: Sustainable Home Design

For NEV Members, their Builder and their Architects

Sat 18th and Sun 19th  February, 2017 (10:00 am to 2:00 pm both days)

At the Narara Ecovillage Visitor Centre - 25 Research Road, Narara.

All members have agreed to support the eco aspect of our village by ensuring our homes meet high environmental standards. So we developed our own building standards!

Now it’s time to explain in detail how our standards and appraisal system will work, and how you and your architect can create an awesome home design. So please come to NEV’s Building Standards Workshop. Saturday 18th February between 10:00am and 2:00pm at the Visitors Centre.

The event will be led by Graham Hunt, an architect of 25 years standing, who specialises in sustainable building design and environmental ratings.

Graham has worked closely with NEV to develop our building standards with the aim of minimising our environmental impact and improving the energy efficiency of the homes we will build here. Focusing on Stage 1 lots, and with a little assistance from members of NEV’s Building Standards Working Group, Graham will explain what’s what in the Building Standards and the Design Assessment Scoresheet. The day is aimed informing your designers and builders about the standards and you are encourage to have them attend.

Topics include:

  • What’s a Sustainable Design Appraisal?
  • How do you get your design endorsed by NEV Building Review Panel?
  • Design Innovative building? For sure!
  • Design tips?? For sure for sure!!

Light refreshments will be provided during the workshop

Sunday 19th February

There will be a follow up the next day, Sunday 19th February at the same time. The day is more focused in working through issues raised by lot owners and answering questions raised. Details explanations of specific aspects of the standard will be covered.

Workshop 2: Design Assessment Scoresheet

For NEV Members and Sustainable Design Appraisers

Sat 4th and Sun 5th  March, 2017 (Time to be confirmed)

At the Narara Ecovillage Visitor Centre - 25 Research Road, Narara.

This event will be led by Graham Hunt, Mike Belfield & Grant Rickey.

They will work with NEV members who are interested in applying for the role of Sustainable Design Appraiser (previously called NEV Registered Assessors) as set out in NEV's Community Management Statement.

The workshop will provide an understanding of the role and it responsibilities.

It will also examine in detail NEV's Design Assessment Scoresheet including mandatory and optional components of the scoresheet and the application of bonus points within the design assessment process

Our Design Approval Pathway will also be presented in detail including its requirements to serve the vision, mission and aim of the ecovillage, focusing on the community building aspects of site appraisal, design development and construction, central to which is the ability to work collaboratively with neighbours and neighbourhoods.

The workshop will conclude with attendees completing worked examples of the scoresheet.

  • Detail Review of NEV Design Assessment Scoresheet
  • How is it Completed
  • How is it Assessed
  • Where does it fit into the NEV Building Approval Process!
  • Worked Examples.
